With Bells…and a Plan C

Given the fact that Thanksgiving was logistical nightmare that ended with the Kisa and me crashing the in-laws dinner party I decided I would fight tooth and nail for Christmas to be a little more sane. Christmas and sane in the same sentence? How is that even possible? Blessed are the flexible for they shall come to the party with not only a plan A and a plan B, but armed with a plan C as well.

Each plan comes with it’s own logic problem, if (blank) then (blankety-blank).

Plan A:
IF mom accepts an invitation to see relatives (not us) on Christmas Eve THEN the knight and I will drive up to Maine, pick her up from aforementioned party, stay the night up north, then travel to the Other Island on Christmas Day, catching the boat at a time to be determined later. No dog issue to speak of. We travel back to MA 12/27.

Plan B: IF mom does not accept the invitation and can’t find a place for the dog THEN the knight and I will drive up to Maine, not pick her up from the party, but pick her up anyway, stay the night up north, the travel to the Other Island on Christmas Day, catching the boat at a time to be determined later. We travel back to MA 12/27.

Plan C: IF mom does not accept the invitation and can find a place for the dog and wants to take the bus to Portland, THEN Kisa and I will meet her in the Old Port for drinks and dinner Christmas Eve, then hop the 5:30pm ferry to the Other Island in time for Christmas Eve service…We travel back to MA 12/26.

Of course I am leaning towards Plan C because it’s the least amount of driving and has the potential for the most amount of fun. The other benefits include, but are not limited to – getting to the Other Island a day earlier (which means coming home a day earlier), getting to see the soon-to-be ex-brother-in-law and while I know I’m supposed to side with my sister on this one I happen to think he’s a nice guy and am disappointed to think he will probably disappear from our lives once the divorce is final…and the final benefit to Plan C is elimination of the possibility of a Finley/Bailey encounter that would only end in bloodshed should the two meet.

So, the plan is Maine. 12/24 – 12/26 or 12/27. Finally, something I plan on. We’ll be there with bells on!
