My husband and I took a run together this morning. I gave him his training schedule and a couple of different run choices – all of them on the gerbil wheel. Nothing could have suprised me more than his announcement of “I want to run outside.” Had the Monhegan run gotten to him? Had he discovered the pleasure of running outside in an ever-changing environment of obstacles? Here is nothing like the island, that is for sure. Turning cars, cracks in the sidewalk, piles of dog crap, broken bottles, all things to avoid while navigating a run. Monhegan has barely any vehicles, dirt roads, barely any crap and no broken bottles). Here there are automobile fumes, fresh cut grass, fried food, fresh brewed coffee, all smells to distract. I just shrugged and said let’s go.
For those of you who know the area here’s how it went: up Simard & Pendleton (straight uphill for exactly one mile – which Kisa ran the entire thing), along Memorial (lots of traffic and noise – my least favorite part of the loop), passing D&D, TF Tire, Doc’s, the trailer park and 7-11, down Montgomery to where it meets Yelle and, finally, finally up Penn. 3.86 miles total with only three walk breaks for a final pace of 12min/mi. Not bad. Not bad at all.
On a personal note, I ran 10.35 miles for the week. Here’s what I most proud of – sticking with a three times a week schedule with NO pain! 🙂
